@DaveSWMar 13.2003 — Looks good, but I can't read any of the text or links. Maybe it's just my screen resolution, but none of the text is legible. How about a different font or more contrast?

Maybe the some links would be better opening in the same window?

Aside from that it definitely looks good, and the coding seems up to scratch too.

Nice one

@spufiMar 13.2003 — Maybe this is just because it's more of a pet peeve of mine, but when a person clicks on "Enter," don't open a new window. All the more so, don't open a non-resizeable window. Looking at the page that's created once I hit "Enter," I don't really see the need for you to use frames. With a normal sized window you'll have plenty of space for all of your text.

The reason i don't have the links in the same window is because i don't want the browser going forward when you click on a link. This way you can continue to look at my site while going somewhere else on the window you opened it with. Does that make sence? I don't know about the text thing though. I have "Papyrus" type text and i really like how it looks.

If i could make the links do the same thing they do now without having the frames i would do it.

@georgeafiauthorMar 15.2003 — Nevemind i just changed it. Might as well. It does look a little better.

@maverickMar 15.2003 — Pretty dark over there ... switch on the light ... can't read in the dark.

@Rifter72Mar 15.2003 — Though, the red lettering is kinda hard on my eyes, other than that, I like it.

@khakiMar 15.2003 — Hi...

can I be constuctively critical?

Some quick observations when viewing at 800x600:

The index page should allow the visitor to click on the main image to enter the site (otherwise scrolling is necessay to reach the ENTER link - which is an unecessarily annoying beginning for users coming to the site).

Once inside the site, the internal scroller is basically just gadgetry. The browser's scrolller is still required - which means the visitor must use 2 scrollers to view the content. That same internal scroller is not found on any other page in the site (that's a continuity issue).

The following text appeared while clicking thru the various links:

Connection: Keep-Alive, Keep-Alive Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=4 HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Sat, 15 Mar 2003 05:00:38 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) mod_gzip/1.3.19.1a mod_perl/1.27 Set-Cookie: visited=03%2F14%2F2003; domain=.georgeafi.bravepages.com; path=/; expires=Wednesday, 07-Dec-2011 12:40:25 AM GMT Set-Cookie: visited=03%2F14%2F2003; domain=georgeafi.bravepages.com; path=/; expires=Wednesday, 07-Dec-2011 12:40:25 AM GMT Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=3 Connection: Keep-Alive Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html a5

...that's not good.

There is no continuity in regard to font styles. Various font types are used throughout the site.

It's not all bad however.

I like the colors. And the graphics. It's really edgy, and I think that the site's creative design style is on target.

But continuity is an issue. And gadgets should only be used to enhance the site.... not detract from it.

Was I too harsh? I hope not... I really didn't mean to be.

I'm impressed that you progressed so quickly. Now you just need to tighten-up some areas.

Am I forgiven for my honesty george? Was any of this helpful (or just hurtful)?

I feel bad now ? . Please tell me that I shouldn't.

wondering if I did the right thing...

@khakiMar 15.2003 — i have no idea what that thing wth the links you are talking about. You said "that's not good". I don't know what you mean by that.
Well George, I think that it is a Netscape only issue.

I just checked your site again (in Netscape & IE), and the 2nd page (http://www.miseriacantare.com/index2.html) has the following "text" instead of just the menu (in the left frame) when viewing in Netscape:

It disappears if you refresh the page, but that doesn't change the fact that it happens upon first load (that's what I mean by "That's not good")

@spufiMar 16.2003 — I'll also confirm getting the "gibberish" that khaki is talking about. Of course once it went away I couldn't get it to come back.

Taking a further look at things, here's some things I saw. It's a good practice to name HTML page without using capital letters. Some HTML books and sites might teach that it's ok, and technically it is, but it's becoming a standard to only use lower case for HTML page names.

Speaking of standards, you have on your main.html page the DTD for XHTML 1.0 Trans. One big problem, your page doesn't ball park being valid XHTML 1.0 Trans. You have multiple doctypes, and multiple <html> tags within the same document. Those are big no nos in XHTML.

Another thing to look at is where you define things. You seem to like to define things that will effect the whole page at the bottom of the page. Just look at where you define some of your styles at. It is much better to define stuff like that higher up in a page. A good place to put CSS is in your <head> tag.

So, go and make the XHTML Doctype your very first line in your page. Add the following <meta> tag in your header and then go validate your code.

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

Even just putting all of your necessary code within one <html> tag, I got 131 errors. To help out with some of those, you'll want to check out the following link.

Link for validation is in my signature.
