W3C and innerText

I was browsing around W3C today, and stumbled across this page.

It shows an example of a button changing the text and url of a link…nothing unusual, except when I saw this line:
document.getElementById(‘myAnchor’).innerText=”Visit W3Schools”
I thought innerText and innerHTML weren’t recognized by W3C? What’s up with that?

@JonaFeb 28.2005 — The W3Schools web site is not owned or affiliated with the World Wide Web Consortium organization. They are separate entities owned and operated by separate organizations.

The official W3C organization recommends this for an innerText replacement:

<i>
</i>document.getElementById('myAnchor').firstChild.data = "Visit W3Schools.";
