when ftp invisible includes folder

Hello,

This forum have been a great help for me, so I’m trying again to get some advice from you.

I have the ftp info (host, user and password) and need to change the navigation menu for a website. This menu is an include file, like this:
<!–#include file=”../includes/navigation_left.asp”–>
I can edit it, there is no problem, the thing is that when I connect to the server I cannot see the includes folder, or any other folders, except some php files (but not all). Browsing the website I would say that these files are in different folders (product, news) but in fact they are all in the root.

When downloading the files from server with Dreamweaver, if I specify including dependant files, eventually I download these folders: includes, images, but outside the website root (one level up).

Thanks for time and help, maybe you can at least direct me to some helpful reading, tutorials, I really don’t know where to begin from.

@patenaudematFeb 27.2005 — First of all, I'd like to point out that this is the PHP forum, not the ASP forum (we all make mistakes ?)... in fact, I just made a mistake because I gave you a solution to the wrong problem, and now I'm editing it.

If I understand what you're saying correctly, the problem is that the includes directory is above the root directory, and your FTP client can't access that... right?

If you have SSH (Secure Shell) access to the server, you can usually manipulate the files that way... just log on to the root directory, and use "cd .." to go up one level. Usually "nano" or "pico" is available to edit files. However, that normally only applies to Linux/UNIX servers.

I'm not quite sure I'm helping with the right problem, though, so I don't exactly know what to say next... sorry.

@LigiaauthorFeb 27.2005 — Thanks a lot, I realised too late that I posted in another forum, and submitted to asp too, please receive my apologies. I fixed the problem, specifying in Dreamweaver

Host Directory /

because I didn't know its name. The ftp info I received was incomplete, and by chance I could fill that gap.

I was really desperate last night, but today is a beautiful sunny day. Thanks again.
