Creating a site

I’m looking into making my own online music community site. I’m not exactly sure how to start off. I can probably start off with a design for the site using html and css, other than that I’m pretty lost. I want people to be able to register on the site as members so they can login and immediately transfer to their own page within the site. When someone registers for the site, I want it so that the information is automatically stored in a database (i think this is where php and mysql comes in). It would also be nice to have automated e-mails sent when people register.

I have a lot of plans for it… but basically, I’m not sure where to begin. Any suggestions?

@Stephen_PhilbinFeb 21.2005 — Sounds to me like you need a content management system. By the sounds of it you're not quite ready to go building one of them yet ? but they can be great for setting up the site you want and letting you learn as you go. I haven't built a generic CMS yet so I've nothing to offer you, but there's quite a few people here that have built one. If nobody in here offers one to you, just try asking nicely in the general section. Even if nobody has one to give to you, they'll point you to a site with one. I had a brief encounter with a CMS called Nuke. I wasn't exactly keen on it, but you should be able to find it easy enough by slapping phpnuke in google if ya wanna give it a swing.

i can offer you a CMS, its at 100%, probably a few bugs that need ironing out as its not long launched, but thats all built into the software for bug reporting, please contact me for further discussion
