I am starting in web development and I would like to know which is the best utility for dealing with webs, I have heard about dreamweaver but I sincerely don´t know. Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks.
@soccer362001Feb 02.2005 — #I personally don't use Dreamweaver, but I have heard that it is pretty good, when used correctly. The other thing I would recommend to you is not to use FrontPage. The best way is to code everything by hand, and if all else fails, use Notepad.
I suggest you learn the html code. If stuff gets really tricky, then open up your page in frontpage. But it is better if you learn the code. This is how I work on my webpages. A html tutorial can be found at http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
@MstrBobFeb 05.2005 — #Never, ever use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, they spit out horrendous code. Markup is really rather simple, and can be done quickly. Styling might give you some issues though. NogDog posted some excellent tools, I use HTML-Kit exclusively for my web development, and of course the W3C has the official specifications for HTML and CSS, which you'll need to be knowledgeable of.
Other then that, there's always Image Editing for design. I love The Gimp:
But many people also use Adobe Photoshop, and Macromedia Fireworks, I believe. The Gimp is free, however. And, you'll want to be able to do somecross browser testing. At this current time, the most popular browsers are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Opera.
(Safari is Mac-only). I suggest that you use Either Mozilla Firefox with the Web Developer Tool Bar or Opera as your main browser, as they are very web-developer and standards friendly.
