Output php code as a string on a php page?

I want to display a php code as a string on a php page. How can I do that?

for example this code:
echo “$address”;

display the value of $address variable and not $address itself.

I have found one way but is not a good way:

echo “$”;
echo “address”;
which will give this output:
$address.

Thanks.
