Table, Slices, Alignments, GIF, Flash

I don’t know if I have the right forum or not, but I am sure someone here must have run into this and can help.

I am trying to do a redesign of our family homepage at:

http://www.watsonworld.org

I went to photoshop and did some slices for the page, to make a nice side menu (http://www.watsonworld.org/test/index_test.htm).

I have made a world with a revolving moon around it in Flash and I made the movie the same size as the corner .gif. I used the corner .gif as the background in the movie so it would look seamless.

The problem – it isn’t seamless for some reason:

I have tried changing the size of the movie, moving the background down, all kinds of the things, but I just can not seem to get it to be seamless.

Is there any hope?

Thanks in advance!

@PeOfEoDec 13.2004 — why not make the whole top banner a .swf? I do not suggest using tables for layout, but if you insist apon it you can use colspan to stretch that top cell over the whole page.

@CWatsonJrauthorDec 13.2004 — I tried that too... couldn't get the side nav to match up ?

BUT.. Okay.. NOW I am converted to <div>!! It is a great way to layout a page (except I haven't yet figured how to make sure the content is in the center of a persons browser irrespective of their screen resolution... but that will come ?)

I have redone it with CSS using <div> at:

http://www.watsonworld.org/test/index_test_div.htm

Don't yell at me because I put the CSS inline.. I did that for ease of viewing the source. If you look at the CSS, I had to push the left nav an extra pixel to line it up (thus giving me a white line on the left edge). Why would that be?

Is this a Flash issue?? It lines up perfectly when there is a .gif in that spot. I guess my real question is... how in the world do I make sure a Flash movie is the size it says it is? Even using "Exact Fit" as a parameter doesn't help.

Thanks again for looking at this and helping ?

Cliff

@PeOfEoDec 13.2004 — could be a padding, border, margin, anything issue. Can you increase the width of that menu by 1px?

@tbailey1027Dec 21.2004 — that looks like silly - looks like a padding issue
