should I convert my iframe html to php?

I am fairly new to the whole webpage concept, so bear with me please.

I have been working for a long time on a html site usings two iframes. Reason I did this: It was what I at the time was able to teach myself, and I liked the idea of being able to only load up the ‘text’ when going to different pages, making it fairly quick to load and navigate around. Its has grown to be, what I, in my humble oppinion would call quite big, 200+ pages.

But now i am suffering from things like url masking *shrug* and pages loading outside my frames (I have tryed forcing them back in frame, but i can only seam to load one of them not boath iframes) when i try to give a direct url. Not to mention all the things I have read around the web about frames in general being evil and what not. The part I do like about the iframes is the ability to load only the thing i need, keeping the rest of the page static.

Its a fairly graphics free page as is, so might not load that slowly in anycase. But I would also like to be able to change pages, with out having to change the navigation on 30 other pages as well; part of the reason i picked frames, then atleast i would only have to change 1 or 2.

Befor I go off and try to learn a completly new language, I was hoping to get some insight into what would be the best option – or if inded I should convert at all?

Would it be valid to try and redo the entire thing into php or another language? And how much work should I expect to have to do converting files?

I advance, thanks.

@IllufoxNov 30.2004 — I use iframes for my html site and I remember having noticed that once in a while a page loads outside the frame. Lately I only use the "template" feature in Dreamweaver which gives you the same convenience as iframes in that you only have to change the template which then updates all other pages automatically.

@aeetesauthorNov 30.2004 — I remember the template function in Dreamweaver, remember reading about it to be honest, but at the time I was over-whelmed by all the new information I was trying to absorbe, and iframes just seamed the simple enough to implement. Now I am wondering if I am paying the price.

@IllufoxNov 30.2004 — It's actually really simple. All you need to do is to take your base template that contains the navigation and images and "save as template". Then when you create new pages select "create from template" and select the template that you just saved. The new page opens with the template applied so all you need to do is inserting the text.

Good luck!
