What is this called?

Hi,

I am new to DHTML. I am trying to find a script that will do something similiar to this:

[url]http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6271/compquip.html[/url]

(it’s the Yahoo sponsored links in the upper right).

The problem is, I don’t know what I am searching for. DHTML “menus” seem to be for navigation. What would I search for to find this thing?

I have found a script pretty close to it, at dynamicdrive, but it only works in IE. I need something that works in all browsers, or at least most of them, if that is possible.

Have a look at the source. It's very simple - there's an absolutely positioned div with two divs inside it - buttons and ads. The buttons toggle the display property of certain divs - block/none. The 'toggle' button opens and closes the div with the ads whiile the 'close' button does the same to the wholoe thing (of course, after you've changed the display of the whole thing - it's gone).

And of course, this is just an (ugly) example - style it as you see fit with css.

That is helpful. I noticed that I can't view the source of the geocities page! But that popup works the same in IE and NS! Think they'd share the code with me? ? I doubt it! :p

If you were going to search the net for a script like that, what would you search for? dhtml popup? dhtml window? Surely it has a name!

What would you call it....? I guess something like "DHTML (or javascript) pop-up". Dynamic Drive has something similar (though not the same) [URL=http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex11/abox2.htm]here[/URL]. It says it works in all browsers.
