browser table & font capabilities

Does anyone know a good comparison table for browswer capabilities? At the moment I’d like to be sure most browsers could obey a tag <td width=”30%> and I suspect I’m in dreamland here, but that and font percentages would cover diffrent screen resolutions . . . too easy, I suspect.

But anyway, it would be nice to know which browswers can’t use frames and which can’t use this command or that command or this css or that and write the way I want and send the rest to a little easy site . . .

Any nice comprehensive chart available?

@CharlesFeb 27.2003 — [font=georgia]There are more than a hundred different graphical browsers out there and numerous non-graphical ones as well. And if you simply follow the HTML 4.01 Strict rules (http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/) and the Web Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/) then your page will work on all of them.

And to quote from the HTML 4.01 Specification:Tables should not be used purely as a means to layout document content as this may present problems when rendering to non-visual media. Additionally, when used with graphics, these tables may force users to scroll horizontally to view a table designed on a system with a larger display. To minimize these problems, authors should use style sheets to control layout rather than tables.[/quote][/font]

@jeanneauthorFeb 27.2003 — Thanks for answering -- and would that it were so. one of my biggest surprises was when the style sheets I wrote according to notes from W3 came up on my father's computer in one of the weirdest fonts imaginable -- so I learned to specify at least 3 common faces before "serif" or "sans-serif" . . .I agree about tables generally but it could drive one nuts!
