If you want to get in good witht he search engines, then a site that is accessible to the spiders would be adantagious. Make it with css, stear clear of frames and java script (except for nonessentail aesthetics). I think some spiders may even take a dump on nested tables.
@ReachLocalNov 06.2004 — #It depends if the #1 you refer to concerns the organic listings or the paid (PPC) listings. My knowledge is in the PPC area. If you're interested in PPC let me know and I'll fill you in. For the organic listings, I advise you seek out an SEO expert.
@Ben_RogersNov 08.2004 — #Heh. I used to be #1 for "Leet translater". Of course, were you to spell it correctly, I'd've been 4th or so. I got plenty of hits there, made me wonder if I should've destroyed that site...
For the record, the phrase was in the <title>, in a second level heading, and the phrases "leet" and "translater" had multiple instances in the introductory paragraph. Also, the link used to be in my signature, and this is a high-traffic site. So, basically, it was a matter of a well-keyworded page being linked to hundreds of times on a site with thousands of daily hits.
