Complete Newbie to JScript who needs some guidance

Hi all. I am almost completely new to the world of JavaScript. I am trying to teach myself, primarily using the resources on the web. However, I’m quickly realizing that I need more than that. I know that there are many, many reference/resource books out that that are available. Does anyone have any recommendations on some good ones?

Thanks for any input.
Janice

P.S. I apologize if this has already been addressed in an old thread.

@JPnycOct 27.2004 — I think the peachpit press books are pretty handy. www.w3schools.com is pretty good for starters.

@Paul_JrOct 27.2004 — I would suggest picking up the latest version (which would be 4) of JavaScript: The Definitive Guide, by David Flanagan, and reading it several times, cover-to-cover. @7studOct 27.2004 — It sort of depends on how much programming experience you already have:

none:

some:

expert(and a good reference for all levels):

@jamahaffeyauthorOct 27.2004 — Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions on reference books on JavaScript.

Here's a harder question: how do I actually start sleeping at night instead of staying up reading, learning, trying to write some code, getting frustrated that it didn't do what I wanted it to do, getting frustrated because I can't find anything online to tell me how to make it do what I want it to do, ... In other words, is it too late to stop the transformation into the "computer weenie" I've ALWAYS wanted to be (I REALLY do want to be a computer weenie!)? ?

@JPnycOct 27.2004 — That'll wear off, eventually. Meantime hang around here and read the questions and answers. Can get a lot of info right here. We all learn from each other (or at least I do).
