Show message while image is loading ??

Is it possible to display a message where an image is supposed to show while the image is still loading? I want this message (such as “Image loading”) to display in the exact spot that the image will be displayed, until the image is completely loaded. I thought that was the purpose of the lowsrc attribute, but it did not seem to work (I created an image with the message I wanted displayed and pointed to it from the lowsrc attribute).

Anyone have any ideas?
