Googles PR update!

When is Google’s next PR update supposed to take effect on?

Can’t stand being ranked at PR0 for the longest time. I finally have multiple quality related links set up and want a friggin ranking score.

Just for the peer pleasure of it and to get more link partners.

@mountainmadSep 22.2004 — Will there ever be another pagerank ipdate?

Concentrate on your SERPs. There probably will be a pagerank update this year at some point, but I think PR is going to become less important as an indicator in SEO and SERPs position the key, which is as it should be.

@IntensityauthorSep 22.2004 — For incoming traffic both of them are very important. In order to get good SERPs you have to have many quality backlinks.

Now some people will trade links if you have a quality site setup but most people will take your PR in consideration and you you don't meet their criteria you will not get their backlink (normally asking for PR2 - PR4.)

With my PR0 (long overdue) it is really hurting my backlink campaigns.

@mountainmadSep 22.2004 — Given the current PR scenario it would be foolish to look at PR alone or at all as a deciding factor in whether to link to someone.

Most people using PR as a factor are also aware of the current state of limbo it is in and will look at other factors. BL's, general SEO of a site and so on, possibly even its SERPs position, a good indicator of the real PR of a site.

Additionally though, the bigger Google picture is pointing towards themed links being of more importance and this should be of considerable importance for link exchange in any strategy.

IMHO

@IntensityauthorSep 22.2004 — Of course PR is not the only factor.

With backlinks you look for
•
Related material

  •
Not to many links on the given page

  •
Clean links

  •
Good Keyword targeting

  •
PR

  •
and more
With the competitive market in the web design industry and top ranking websites that have moderate to good traffic, will have a good PR.

SEO optimizing of your coding can only do so much in Google where you need Quality, related backlinks that passes good PR to your website, otherwise you can site around all year long and only get a handful of customers.

With Yahoo, MSN and all the other insignificant search engines, good coding will give you a great PR rank, which amount of what.... 15% of search engine traffic.

Comparing these two is kinda like comparing a bumpy country road, compared to a 4 lane highway. One of these will get you where you need to be: Having a phat bank account.

@PikoTechSep 23.2004 — Google's PR update seems to be imminent:

    http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=27644

Backlinks for some areas of the world have already been updated. Time tells us this can only mean one thing. ?

@IntensityauthorSep 25.2004 — WebProWorld has been discussing this topic more & more and they are expecting a total revision of Google's PR toolbar. It has been more than 3 months now and no changes have taken place.

Luckily I just seriously began my Linking campaign and SEO. Now I am at an disadvantage finding quality related backlinks.

Google updated its backlinks about 2 weeks ago, but no indication of a PR change.

    Is Google's PR toolbar dead?

    @PikoTechSep 25.2004 — Intensity,

I now agree. It seems there is talk of Google updating their PageRank over many weeks / days / months and perhaps an end to the old "big updates" as we knew them.

Where do we go next? What do we do next? This may prove very problematic for SEOs who have come to rely so heavily on Google.

As for back links, it seems only some websites are having updates whereas others don't (I can tell you that from experience).

Also, I noticed a few days ago on a site previously unknown to Google that when I clicked one of the voting buttons Googlebot came straight over to my site within minutes and indexed it.

Two days late it had vanished from the index (was I dreaming?). Now, again it has been indexed but only the first page.

What is going on at Mountain View? Who knows? Though I wish I was a fly on their wall!

@discountdomainsSep 29.2004 — I think that Google has delayed the Toolbar PR update as a way of sending the message to webmasters that PR is less and less important.

What is important is content and relevancy.

    Just my thoughts!

@IntensityauthorSep 30.2004 — WebproWorld is noticing that a new googlebot has been released and is working in conjunction with the regular googlebot.

They are stating that this is an effort to reduce black hat techniques, such as doorway pages, to ensure for fair rankings, search engine results will depending more on revelancy of the website.

Also this would free up space for more natural results and more pages that can be indexed by Google's search engine.

I think PR is here to stay. I mean, what would be next? Measurement of backlinks to a given web page?

Some fashion of ranking will always be at hand!
