Center align for entire frameset?

Hi

Can anyone please tell me how to get an entire frames page to center on the screen? I have one page that uses frames, and the rest of the site is center-aligned on the screen (using tables), so this one page looks out of place. Putting div tags around the entire frameset (i.e <div align=”center>rest of stuff</div> doesn’t seem to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks
jon

@PhillMcSep 17.2004 — As far as I know, JonW, there is no standard way of doing this.

Since I'm not really sure, because I lean away from frames due to accessibily issues, I suggest you check out the HTML tutorials link in my signature to read up on the subject of framesets. You should find what you need there.

@SiddanSep 17.2004 — doesn´t a simple <center> tag work?

Otherwise I don´t quite follow you what the problem really is

@PhillMcSep 17.2004 — Well, center won't be valid in this case because FRAMESET pages do not have a body. Any tag that is outside of the body tag in source is in-valid; this would pose problems in many browsers.

@SiddanSep 17.2004 — aha,, so he wants the frame which holds an external content to be centered in the index page or whatever?... yup, that could be a problem...

I would suggest perhaps to use an iframe and have it inside an ordinary table then

@PhillMcSep 17.2004 — From the way I understand his question, it's an entire frameset he wants centered; not just one frame.

@jonwauthorSep 17.2004 — Hi - thanks for the replies and sorry if I wasn't too clear. I have a page made up of 4 frames. I want that entire page to center on the screen, not just stuff centered within a frame. I am quite new to all this, but have searched high and low for sites that offer advice on this, but no luck so far. Perhaps the IFRAME route is the way to go?

Thanks

jon

@SiddanSep 17.2004 — alright, hehe

well yea, I find the iframe to be better use than ordinary frames, Since iframe is just a tag inside the Body then having the whole page centered it should work...

either adding align="center" inside the body tag or use <center> for the whole content

not sure how to line up the iframes together... but a simple table with 4 columns should fix that and have one iframe in each column

good luck

@PhillMcSep 17.2004 — True, a table would keep them together but it would be more accessible to keep them centered with styled divisions. Tables are being phased out for purposes of layout and presentation because they are only meant for 2 dimensional data. Standards compliant design specifies that content and presentation should be seperated for accessibilty reasons. Check out some of the links in my signature to read up on this.
