Customized ToolTip

I’m having some problems with a customized tooltip.script I got from
TheJavaScript Source and it works fine in IE, but although there is code supplied for NS, it doesn’t work.
Help please!

Try the attached file, containing tooltip JavaScript code that I wrote.
Thanks WestPac, but it doesn't work in Netscape.

Hey Vladdy

Aren't you just a little bit arrogant ?

Have you even looked at the script a asked about.

I can't recall asking for another script.

If you had looked at the other script you might be able to understand on what level of expertise I'm.

I can only assume you didn't, so you really can't now what would help me.

I mean, if someone wants to build an electric generator/engine you wouldn't give him the scematics of a modern electrical train.

By the way, the script contains a "switch" statement with only one "case", what's the point?:p

The (original) script is incomplete and rubbish anyway, as are many of the scripts from "The JavaScript Source".
I can't recall asking for another script.
See above. Go and get Cool DHTML Tooltip

Right, but still, I asked for help in writing a script, not for where I can buy one.

@Willy_DuittAug 24.2004 — Nothing for nothing... But when asking for help, you really should graciously accept whatever suggestions are offered... Even if you feel they do not fit your needs... A polite "I do not wish to pay for a script" would have sufficed...

When I come asking for help on how to fix a script, where does he get the idea from that I might want to buy one ???

But that´s ok. I just replied that that suggestion doesn't really help me. But it pissed me when he replied:
Then nothing will:rolleyes:
and that is arrogant.

Nothing in the post above indicates neither your desire to write your own script nor fix the errors in the one you downloaded.

To the contrary:

  • * the fact that you started with downloading a script from Javascript Source (which should be known as Javascript Dump, as Fang pointed out)

  • * and the fact that you simply state that "it does not work" without providing any error information

speak against your desire and ability to script yourself

  • Since you did not express any fondness of the script you had, I offered you a much superior alternative. If my script can in no way help you in providing the desired funcitonality, than, rephrasing my initial reply, "no other will".

For the future keep in mind an old adage: "properly asked question contains half an answer"

Well, as I am not expirienced in Javascript - I started about three weeks ago - I'm using the sources I find, to learn.

I also stated that the script worked in IE, so if you say everything on Javascript Source is junk, you'd have to believe I made it work, hence the desire and ability to make my own scripts.
Since you did not express any fondness of the script you had, I offered you a much superior alternative.
I asked for help on a specific script, I did not ask for help on the topic in general.

Your "superior" alternativ does not fit my needs, hence it is absolutely useless to me.
If my script can in no way help you in providing the desired funcitonality, than, rephrasing my initial reply, "no other will".

As mentioned above, your script is too complex for my ablilities as of now, so I wouldn't be able to complete, the "move" function on my own. On the other hand, the post made by Fang contained a script that much better fitted my need of functionality and learning.
For the future keep in mind an old adage: "properly asked question contains half an answer"
Just another proof of your arrogance.

@steelersfan88Aug 24.2004 — This is like 3 new users i na week that really think we are doing a bad job. From history, Vladdy and I have never been great pals, but even I think he's done everything to help.

Many of us here simply provide code. Vladdy, and many others have gone beyond that to the point where they want you to learn by standards ... the reason Vladdy pointed you away from the dump, and towards a reliable source (his own).

Although I will not completely agree that he is not arrogant at all (... I've been here too long to say that), when Vladdy helps you, be thankful you received any help at all. A script like that should encourage you to learn to attempt similar results ... not argue because you are dissatisfied from the help you received.

... I hate having to do what I'm about to do ...

Trying to learn from garbage that floats up the search engine is hardly a good way to learn

Copying and pasting code into your page hardly qualifies as "made it work"

If your need is to learn (which is not what the OP says) the script you picked up is not a good example.

If your need is to have a desired, turn-key functionality on the page (which is the interpretation of your OP) I offered you the solution.

As mentioned above, your script is too complex for my ablilities as of now, so I wouldn't be able to complete, the "move" function on my own. On the other hand, the post made by Fang contained a script that much better fitted my need of functionality and learning.
My script is not a learning tool, but a product that requires no knowledge of javascript to be installed and used.

So you are saying that if 300lbs nose tackle decided to learn ballet, it would be the ballet master fault if he did not succeed :p  - seems like an excuse of a slow student to me ? ? ?

Your opinion, but, one learns best from mistakes, why not learn from others.
Copying and pasting code into your page hardly qualifies as "made it work"
As you stated yourself, the code found there is not quite useful by itself, but it gives an idea on how to do something. copying and pasting is one thing. adjusting the code to fit your needs is another.
If your need is to learn (which is not what the OP says) the script you picked up is not a good example.
Oh, I must have got lost then, I thought this forum was a place to ask questions about how to write JavaScript and Websides in general and get some help on "how to". NOT "where to buy"

If your need is to have a desired, turn-key functionality on the page (which is the interpretation of your OP) I offered you the solution.
"..is the interpretation.." ? You mean was your interpretation.

Once again, if I had wanted a solution, I had asked for one. You made an assumption which wasn't right, I told you so and still you argue to justify your assumption. Just because you thaught so, doesn't make it so. When I replied. "That doesnt help me at all", you could have ask "What does?" and not "Then nothing will."

My script is not a learning tool, but a product that requires no knowledge of javascript to be installed and used.
Of cause your script is not a learning tool, but still I can learn from it and as mentioned before, it has an empty move routine and a switch statement with only one case, which both make no sense. How about commenting on this.

So you are saying that if 300lbs nose tackle decided to learn ballet, it would be the ballet master fault if he did not succeed
Quite so, anyone can learn how to dance ballet, it's not required to look gracefully.

    Happy coding

I completed the script and it might not be "good" code,

but it does what's supposed to, which is this.
