sorting a multi-dimensional array

this should be simple, and I am sure it is, but I have studied array_multisort and just don’t get it.

i have a multi-dimensional array. for example say many “rows” in the primary array, and 10 “columns” in the nested arrays.

i want to sort the array by the 5th column. so all the rows (nested arrays) stay together but the sort sequence is by the 5th element in the nested arrays.

can someone explain how to do this? the php.net discussion is just not clear to me.

@Beach_BumauthorAug 20.2004 — I am still not sure I understand how it works . . . but I got it to work using the example here:
