I was thinking about getting certified. Is anyone here certified? Do you think it would be a good idea or worth it?

@buntineAug 20.2004 — Depends where you get your cert from. What type of certification are you after?

@madddidleyauthorAug 20.2004 — I saw that W3Schools offers certification for HTML.

@madddidleyauthorAug 20.2004 — I had one of their vouchers from school. I was told I had a year to take it. So the other day I called to set up the test and was told it expired. So now I'm out the money and looking for a cheaper alternative. So I thought since that W3 is setting the standards their certification should be ok?

@buntineAug 21.2004 — Net-based certification wont be regarded high, in my opinion. Unless your looking at a Java or Oracle cert, which I think requires face-to-face interviews and testing.

The certification tests at w3schools.com are very easy to pass and are primarily for beginners. Its more of a money making scheme than anything else.

I suggest you get in contact with some local education facilities and enquire about their certification or short course options.

Regards.

From my own persoanl experience, they have among the worst web design books I've seen. During the Java class I took, the teacher openly ripped on the book, and the school was looking to use a different one the very next semester. The book also cost about twice what any other Java book would. The books basically tell you very little of why something is what it is, and then the code examples are half baked.

I haven't actually tried one of their courses yet, but Eric Meyer teaches the CSS 2 class, so it can't be all that bad.
