execCommand Content Management Question

I am using the Javascript execCommand for browser based rich text editing (as one does lol). The page to be edited is loaded into an iFrame in the editor page and I have placed contentEditable=”True” in the paragraph tags I want to allow to edit.

The problem is the execCommand buttons (but not keyboard shortcuts) are able to format the parts of the pages that are not set to be ContentEditable so it may be possible to accidently cut or reformat some of the fixed content. Anything i can put in the javascript to prevent this?

I have also tried turning desing mode on and setting fixed content as contentEditable=”False” – although it is then no longer possible to type in that area – the whole paragraph, image, etc can be cursor-dragged somewhere else in the page – again not desirable.

any suggestions (my preference is not to put design mode on)
