I have a number of word formatted files 10 to 20 pages per file
that I need to display on my web site. I have set them up as graphic files
(jpg) because they loose their format when I store them as text or html. As
graphic files, they take up a lot of room and load very slowly. I am looking
for a way around this.

One possibility ( I think) would be to store them in a zipped file in their
word format and let the viewer download the files. I have not been able to
find any information on how to do this. There may be other ways to get
around this.

I could appreciate any information that you might lay on me.

Thanks

Roger Anderson

@CyCoFeb 13.2003 — Letting your viewers download the files would be very easy to do. Just make sure you've zipped the files and uploaded them to your server. On your website simply display a link for viewers to download the zip files.

Examples:

<a href="wordformat1.zip">Download 1</a>

<a href="wordformat2.zip">Download 2</a>

<a href="wordformat3.zip">Download 3</a>

@jdaviaFeb 14.2003 — If I am not mistaken, in Word you should be able to view each document as a web page. It may not be visible on the menu until the page has been saved and opened again.

All you need do is, View it as a web page, then right/click the page to show the source code. Copy each page and Paste them in a HTML editor. The format should remain the same.

@Roger_AndersonauthorFeb 14.2003 — Thanks for your reply, you were close.

I am using office 97, If you save a word document as html and then right click on the saved html folder and open to the html editor it will appear in the editor in the word format. Neat!

It is not 100% correct and does require some editing. I will try office 2000 to see if some of the conversion problems have been corrected.

Again, thanks, it is good to have you here for us newbees.

@nkaisareFeb 16.2003 — In my experience, Word creates messiest webpages I can ever imagine. The pages are bloated 3 to 4 times (as against coding HTML yourself), uses proprietary MS tags at places etc. In fact, I felt Word 97 did a better job than Word 2000.

@jdaviaFeb 16.2003 — Microsoft Publisher hasa "Convert any text file" in their open a file box. Click on the button and scroll for it
