NextCloud for management website

My project is for building a management website using NextCloud. I only learn HTML, CSS and JS before. I have some questions now.

  • 1. Is NextCloud a database, like MongoDB or SQL Server?

  • 2. So which language/technology should I use for this project?
    Thank you so much.

@ginerjmNov 01.2022 — You're asking us what something that you have made a decision to use is? Seriously? And - you have learned only one language so far and you have plans to build a website but don't know what (other) language to use?

Good luck. You have no idea what you are embarking upon.

@Lucy781227authorNov 01.2022 — @ginerjm#1648199 That's exactly what I'm facing with. :( I don't have enough knowledge for this project, but it's the only one I can choose, since the others are all embedded systems. I post this in order to have a roadmap for what I need to learn. :( I'm so sorry for bothering you with that.

    @Lucy781227authorNov 01.2022 — I have learnt C and Core Java too.

@ginerjmNov 01.2022 — Already you are lacking in your ability to tell all of the facts which you will learn to be a major flaw in dealing with forum users who will be trying to aid you. So you have 2 languages besides JS

Why do you have to choose a project when you really should be choosing a course of learning instead? Is this a part of your employment or is it part of a class?

One can't write the code for a project if one needs to learn about languages and implementations and how to put together all the pieces of what will become a project first. You have already made it clear that you are very much a noob here. You have posted on a PHP forum yet you are not sure what language you "want" to use. There are many out there and whichever language forum you post on (or have you done this already?) is going to recommend that language for your usage.

Waiting to hear the answer to my first question....

@Lucy781227authorNov 01.2022 — Actually, this project is for a class. I dont know that this forum is PHP forum. It's my fault. I'm just trying to communicate with more people with web development experience.

@Lucy781227authorNov 01.2022 — Ah, I used the PHP tag because it was recommended on the project description.

@NogDogNov 01.2022 — First I've ever heard of NexCloud, but looks like it does use PHP on the server side. Maybe you should start here if you're supposed to be using it: https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/19/developer_manual/app/tutorial.html

@ginerjmNov 01.2022 — Ok - so you are a student. Is this a class to teach PHP? Have you had any training/experience in writing web pages and handling forms and user inputs yet? How about database development and interfacing with the tables using SQL? If the answer is not Yes to all of my questions then how could any educator(?) be asking you to develop a project using some other tool that you don't know about either? If I were you I would be really uncomfortable about now. I feel for you.

So many questions that you didnt' think would be asked here probably...

NextCloud may be some sort of hosting. It is not clear to me if it is only an expensive VPS or not. Or another WIX copycat.

    > So which language/technology should I use for this project?

My first choice should not be a CMS.

I should choose a more flexible language (PHP, Javascript, Go, Python or whatever). But choosing tools is not trivial. I guess I should test, read and practice and then repeat until I was comfortable with my final choice...

@ginerjmNov 01.2022 — And with this latest input, how do you like the looks of this project now Lucy?

@Lucy781227authorNov 01.2022 — @ginerjm#1648206 The purpose of the class is for building a real 'product'. Like if I need to create a website, it's not a local host. There is also another class teaching web development (at the same time, and may use old technology). I only have experience working with SQL Server and handling forms by using Java Swing.

@Lucy781227authorNov 01.2022 — @ginerjm#1648208 To be honest, I dont understand your question at all. I want to make a project as functional as possible. I dont work on this project by myself. I have a team with 3 people.
