getting the correct directory

i have thi path on a linux server :

[code=php]site/web/inter[/code]

i am doing this :

[code=php] opendir(getcwd().”../PDF/”)[/code]

the thibs is that i want to access a folder that is under :

[code=php]site/web/files2[/code]

and i tried to do the above code to point to another directory
like in wondows but it idnt work!
is there a way i can do it?
