Tough one to solve! Can’t access site via Wifi..only a vpn or cabled connection

This began happening about a week ago. Intermittently my web site drops. It’s up and then it’s down.
Now I can see the site but only if I access thru my VPN. Also can’t view my site over my wi-fi. Only a cabled connection. This is mostly happening at my local office only. I can access the site elsewhere, most of the time.

I have been in web dev for over 20 years and this one is a very strange issue.
The error I receive in Google Chrome is: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

There’s nothing controversial about the site so no reason to be blocked.

So far I have tried:
1.) Flushing my dns
2.) I installed two different new routers and 1 new modem (cable internet)
3.) I tried Ipconfig release & restore in cmd
4.) Multiple reboots
5.) Reinstalling drivers on my network cards
6.) Calling my hosting provider and updating my dns settings. ()This is the only real change in years.)
7.) Calling my ISP to see if they were blocking my site. They said they don’t block sites.
8.) Emptied cache on all browsers
9.) Tried to view on my phone, same deal. Have to use my phone network to view. Cant see the site if my wireless connection is active.
10.) Disabled Virus scanner and firewalls
11.) Changed my DNS server on my connection to Google instead of “obtain DNS address automatically.” Still no.
12.) I can view the site on public wireless but not my own.
13.) I have edited my local hosts file to include the ip and domain. Still no.

Please let me know what you think I should try now. Thank you!

First I should identify if it really is a DNS problem. Access your site with ip-number (https://ip-number - or http://ip-number))

If you can access it this way, it is probably a DNS issue. By the error, it should be a DNS configuration issue.

If you recently changed your DNS configuration, it can take up to a week to get all routes updated.

Test that all is correct by using https://www.cloudflare.com/diagnostic-center/

Theoretically it can be a ssl issue, but I doubt.

@NickEauthorDec 10.2021 — Hello, I'm' unable to access the site via the IP

Probably because of the way my hosting company is setup.

Https returns: "Your connection is not private page" (Using Google Chrome)

Http returns: placeholder the hosting company adds as a front page to login to my cpanel

When I run the CloudFlare diag I get all clear except:

no_dnssec_found

The site does not have any DNSSEC records.

and

www_does_not_resolve

No, Cloudflare DNS could not connect to 'www.domain.com'.

Add missing DNS records

What do you think?

Thank you for your feedback by the way ;)

@NickEauthorDec 10.2021 — I also ran a check just now on Verisignlabs and I get:

""mydomain.com":

No DS records found for mydomain.com in the com zone

No DNSKEY records found

No RRSIGs found

@NickEauthorDec 10.2021 — Note: I get the same errors on another site that was having the same issues earlier this week but seems to be fine since I updated the DNS records on Monday.

@NickEauthorDec 10.2021 — One more note that might make sense.

I did install a new SSL cert this week for the site with the issue.

I ran into a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be a delay in DNS routing in my case. I had to just wait until it was fixed by itself. I think the DNS delay could also affect SSL stuff.

I am lucky, I left the shared hosting and started my own VPS hosting several years ago. Not that easy, but faster, may be cheaper and you have full control - at least what I keep telling myself :-)

BTW, Cloudflare is a gold mine of keeping my site safer and faster. And you have good - if not perfect - control of your DNS settings. Cloudflare also takes care of the SSL thing if you accept their "flexible SSL". Just one click and you have the SSL cert up and running. Magically.

@NickEauthorDec 10.2021 — Yes, I think you're right. I just have to be more patient on the propagation I spose. / ;)

I have considered VPS hosting, maybe now sooner than later. It's a lot of work, I'm sure.

Have you found a good provider then?

I do appreciate your feedback and will look into Cloudflare for sure.

Between DNS and SSL issues this week, I lost a couple days.

Yes. And I tested about ten VPS-vendors before I made my final choice. I should avoid the "big three" (AWS, Google and Azure). Mostly because their price lists are very complex and you do not know what the price will be. I did chose https://Upcloud.com

[Here is my playground](https://go4webdev.org). About ten micro sites on a $10 VPS. The main purpose of these sites is to document my learning process. All sites protected and enhanced by Cloudflare.

@NickEauthorDec 15.2021 — I like your style. I have fun with tech as well.

Btw, my error situation seems to be resolved.

The propagation was the issue, apparently that was the problem.

That and I added a cname record for www to resolve.

I appreciate your feedback and help. Would you like to stay in touch? Seems like we have complementary skillsets.
