Any way to hold ceratin data across different pages?

I have a gender choice on the website of a shop.
Once The person clicks “Female” in the header then it must remain the same across different pages of the website.
What is the proper way to do this?

I thought cookies, but they are not a great choice because they must be allowed first to be enabled right?
And this also needs to be used with php when the page is loaded because some things depend on the gender.
