svg and hover

just brainsorming at the moment. lets say i have a notification icon (its an svg ! icon) with a box around it. id like to show the number of notifications upon hover to the side of the exclimation mark. this means resizing the box to fit the number. is this kinda stuff possible with svg?

@SempervivumFeb 29.2020 — Shurely this refers to your previous thread. It can be done, but what makes it difficult is the fact that the border shadow is an image. I propose the following procedure: Leave the exclamation mark be an SVG and make the border shadow and the number by HTML and CSS. Could you go with that?
