Issue with 2 containers not staying side by side

I performing a practice exercise by translating a pd mockup to HTML/CSS. i am encountering difficuties with the welcome and latest projects section it should be side by side. I am trying to use flexbox below is the link to the code, attached is the psd:

@SempervivumNov 01.2018 — I recommend being consequent and find a solution with flexbox. Wrap both containers by a surrounding one and apply display:flex to that container.
