Sending IMAP mail

I would like to authenticate and send mail through an IMAP server rather than through php’s sendmail.

I have tried using imap_open (which works fine when I want to get mail from the IMAP server)and then imap_mail to send the mail. But the mail still goes through the default sendmail.

How can I direct mail through an external IMAP server?

EDIT >> OK, now I see. You need to modify the sendmail,as php always goes there, a specified in php.ini sendmail path.
