Anyone see "Undercover Brother"? I think we should target water companies and city/town reservoirs. ?

@ray326Jun 21.2004 — Contrary to what they said last year (ok this is a dog bites man story) MS is reconstituting a IE development team. I felt this was the most telling sentence on Dave Massy's blog.
I can say though that somewhat vague requests for “better standards support” are not as useful as a specific example of what you'd like to see changed and specifically why it would improve things.
Well of course they're not useful. MS doesn't have a single programmer on staff that can code to spec, so implimenting standards is way beyond their capability. Still, there is some change they'll accidentally fix SOMETHING if they can understand all the pointer they are being deluged with on their IE comments wiki.

My favorite comment to Dave, mainly because it would've been mine, too.
OK, this probably isn't the best suggestion, falling on deaf ears and all. Dump IE. Include firefox in your OS, contribute to the Mozilla community.
@mAthleteJun 21.2004 — what I don't get is webmasters. If everyone is as anti-IE as they claim to be, how come there aren't little anti-IE logos and links to mozilla at the bottoms of your pages, why do you cross test your browser in IE if you hate it? Simply have a disclaimer at the bottom stating that IE has security holes and therefore this site is optimized for Firefox or mozilla. Stop talking and Start walking is the slogan for the AIDS walk organization, and I don't see much walking on behalf of owners of web development companies. So what if you lose a client or two because of your anti-IE sentiments, just eat Ramen for a week and one day you won't have to worry about JScript and other pesky differences along with security issues. Can't you do a browser test in javascript? someone should make, if they haven't already, a script that generates a popup directing the user to http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.6/ if they are using IE. If I am just saying things that have been said before, please tell me, because I am off to go create an elaborate anti-IE logo to paste on my under-construction site.

@SamJun 21.2004 — most of the world uses IE, so not designing for IE is stupid. It really doesn't matter that IE sucks, its popular (reminds me of Anna Kournikova). How many people are going to download a whole new browser just to see your site? I doubt it will do any good.

@PeOfEoJun 21.2004 — Keep in mind that the w3c is not the only place that sets the standards. The major browsers have just as much of a hand in standards making. So ie is complying to standards, just their own set of standards. So the programmers at ms are complying with some standards right? ? Lets not turn this into another ms bash thread. IE Pisses me off just as much as the next guy but we have to suck it up.

So because you are incredibly outnumbered there is no point sticking up for what you think would make the internet a better place

@SamJun 21.2004 — But who would buy a site that 90% of the world can't see?

@rhsundergroundJun 21.2004 — it's like the exact opposite of when someone designs a building. they must accomodate the handicapped first, with entrances and bathrooms and elevators, and then work around to the rest of the population. we design for mozilla, opera, whatever, and then go back and make sure it works in IE.

<edit>it's opposite in the fact that IE users are the handicapped ones</edit>
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@PeOfEoJun 21.2004 — I design for mozilla then go back and tidy up for ie. But I always make sure it looks top notch in ie. Its like your cripple statement, except that I am just making the accomidations for the cripples as seemless as possible. The goal is not to make a site that ie can't see, or that mozilla cant see, but to make a site that everyone can see. That is the job of a good web site designer. Content and accessibility are more important than aesthetics.

I dont agree with that totally as you need a good aesthetics which helps to bring visitors or customers but content and accessibility are just important.

Face it guys we will either be dead or 80 by the time everyone stops using IE and that will be becuase some multi billionare companie take them over and rewrite their browser.

ok so have a nice image but not a drip of content on the site, that will work well ?. Make the site so that the content is accessible, then go back and worrie about makeing it pretty. I did not say forget about the looks, but make sure that you let the looks kill the accessibility. If you want a cool looking nav that is flash or js dependent go the extra mile and put in an accessible html back etc, but just make sure that it is accessible, because that is the most important thing. Content is why people go to your site, so make sure they can get to it.
