CGI scripts and forms

I’m creating a form to be submitted and reading up on cgi scripts to handle the data and have it emailed back to certain people. Now I have seen some places out there where you send them a form or something like that and they auto respond and run the cgi script on their server and then email the response back to you. Now I’m not sure if that would be a good thing to do or not? Is there down sides to it? Am I better off writing the script myself if its not that hard. The form only has maybe 4 fields so its pretty small. I think I’m better off writing my own, but was wondering whether using someone elses ‘free’ script would be worthwhile.

Some insight would be handy if you’ve had any experience with it.

Thanks in advance
