Multiple Character Sets (non-latin alphabet)

Greetings good people,

I’m working on a multilingual site that will eventually be in English, Hebrew, and Arabic. Done a bunch of research on multiple character sets, but am still a bit confused.

I’m not building a DB-driven site for now, so I’m just wanting to konw where I indicate the different sets in the actual HTML file.

I’m on Mac OSX using BBEdit and Dreamweaver MX. My operating system supports the languages and displays everything ok in TextEdit or Word, but once I switch to the dev programs, I start having problems.

In Dreamweaver, for example, if I use the Unicode character set and set my OS to the Arabic language, the characters look chinese (although display fine in other programs)

Help anyone?

Thank you so much.

@EupseudesJun 15.2004 — When you use different character sets, the encoding may run into some problems. The encoding web pages use is under "View">"Encoding". I've noticed that when you use a Unicode encoding, smart quotes become question marks and certain characters are not accepted. And there are different language sets for chinese and japanese and so forth: thus, if you don't have the right encoding option set, the machine will spout of gibberish.

Of course, this really isn't a problem. If the site is in Hebrew, it will probably be read by people who read Hebrew, and thus probably already have their encoding set to Hebrew, and will read your site correctly.

I think your problem is DreamWeaver specific.
