Prevent $_SESSION from reset after page reload

Hi, I have a question about $_SESSION, I have a simple code like this:
session_start();

$_SESSION[counter’]=1;
/* do something…*/
$_SESSION[counter’]+=1;
/* do something…*/
$_SESSION[counter’]+=1;
/* do something…*/
$_SESSION[counter’]+=1;
/* do something…*/
The last $_SESSION[counter’] is 4,

Now if I reload the page, does the $$_SESSION[counter’] stay in 4 or will it start from 1 again? Thanks

@NogDogJan 31.2017 — Since the first thing you do is assign 1 to it, you'll always start at 1. Perhaps you should do something like:
<?php
session_start();
is(empty($_SESSION['counter'])) {
$_SESSION['counter'] = 1;
}
Also, not a big deal -- just a stylistic option, but you can save a few keystrokes by using "++" instead of "+= 1":
<?php
session_start();
is(empty($_SESSION['counter'])) {
$_SESSION['counter'] = 1;
}
// do something
$_SESSION['counter']++;
// do something
$_SESSION['counter']++;
// do something
$_SESSION['counter']++;
// do something
Success!
