Drop Down Filtered Search Engine

Hello everyone,

I didn’t see there being a requirement for formal introductions before I start asking favors, and hopefully asking these types of questions isn’t frowned upon as I’m primarily here to get up to speed for the particular monster of a website I am in the process of perfecting.

Essentially what I’m looking at is trying to code a search engine that consists of multiple drop down menus. You have optional filters to select from before you actually utilize the search engine. I know it’s been done before and it’s perfectly doable. Finding “how to’s” when you’re trying to run an online business is another matter entirely.

So are there any insights as to how to go about this? It would be much appreciated!!! ???

@NogDogOct 07.2016 — I'm guessing (but not sure) that "search engine" might not be the best thing to ... well ... search for. I suspect what you want is some sort of "site search"? I.e., based on the terms/items selected, you'd then want to search content/data on your site that matches those criteria (as opposed to a search engine like Google or Yahoo that crawls the web by following links, in order to find relevant pages for our web searches).

@atactacticalauthorOct 12.2016 — Yes! Cool! Thanks guys for the responses! Would anyone know of maybe some basic working code just to kind of play around with it a bit? Also what the boss is looking for is to have the site search come with drop down menus and I'm curious as to how to integrate that.

Sure beats any of the silly search engines I have used prior it coming out.
