Can I use google sources like; material design color codes in my own website

Just a general question: Can you use “content” from google like, color codes because i am designing a background but want to have that “flat look” with different shades of the same color. Is there any consequences? To use a color code # that is on their website?

@jedaisoulJul 20.2016 — Color codes are generic. No one can claim them, BUT they can claim the "look and feel" of their site and take action against any site owner who mimics it too closely. How close is too close? Good question, and I'm not sure there is a definitive answer. But, for example, if a casual visitor to your site could mistake it for theirs, it probably IS too close. ?

@RDWMJul 21.2016 — you could always reverse it also...black to red as opposed to red to black...hth

Yes, you can use it. If there is a consequence, that is the same color. lol. But don't copy their design and graphics. You can can use downloadable web design templates and customize it for a start.
