Best Option for E-Commerce Site

Please help!

I recently started offering websites along with my marketing services.

One of my clients now wants a new website for his online store. It’s currently a drag & drop type site hosted by 1and1. What he would really like to do is keep all the products he’s entered and change the website to WordPress, but I’m told conflicting info from 1and1 as to whether this is possible. The last guy I talked to said it’s not possible, because that is his package and even if he switches to a WordPress package, all his products will be lost. The 1st guy I talked to said I could do a WordPress site and create a subdomain for the store, keeping all the products.

Anyway, my question is what is the best way to go about getting him his online store? He wants me and the store manager to be able to add products. His store has 100’s of products and we need to be able to add at least 8 products a week, so it may get up into the 1000’s.

I can do WordPress or build him a website in Dreamweaver, but I’m not sure how to go about adding e-commerce or what my options are.

This would be my first experience with an online store. If I do it in WordPress, how do I go about getting the shopping cart feature, payment, and adding 100's of products?

Are there any WordPress themes or do I need a plugin?

@3wCornerApr 12.2016 — There are a lot of options. You can free shopping cart like Magento to build your online store.

Or, you can use WOrdpress and use an ecommerce theme and plugins. However, since his online store site is different from your platform and you might create different product template and catalog for him, you might want add again all their products.

@GunnersWinApr 18.2016 — If you use Woocommerce to build your ecommerce site, that's OK, it is quite easy to use, but it is not powerful. I have tried many CMS, I prefer nopCommerce and also Prestashop. nopCommerce is CMS that use ASP.NET platform, quite complex but it is quite powerful. What I dont like is it consume high resource on the server. But, most of ecommerce site use high resources on the server. Prestashop is also great and easy to use. For hosting provider, basically I use hostforlife.eu. They dont put strong restriction in memory usage. Yeah, quite affordable and support is also quite good. ?

@sophieleoApr 27.2016 — If depend upon on yourself. Because some people like to create a site with word press, some want to create with Shopify, open cart etc. So, you should choose the CMS of your own choice.
