Place for WordPress Questions?

In this forum, where would be the best place to post a WordPress question? With its popularity, I’m surprised there is not a specific WordPress sub heading. Or does anyone know a good wordpress specific forum?

My question of the day is this:
I am making my wordpress website offline using a WAMPSERVER as localhost. When I finish my wordpress website design, can I just ftp the webpages up to a hosting server? or do I have to get (pay for) a designated WordPress server?

A bit more information. I have a free host on **********.com. I can ftp html files up there and host them for fee (with ads). I see sites offering WORDPRESS hosting at a price (GoDaddy, HostGator). After finishing my WORDPRESS design offline, do I have to use a specific WORDPRESS host? Or can I transfer the files up to my free host. Ofcourse eventually I will need paid hosting to be ad free, but while under development my free host site is very nice to try things with.
Thanks,
Drew

@NogDogDec 16.2015 — You don't need something specifically for WP, but you do need a hosting account that includes PHP and MySQL (or any other DBMS that WordPress supports?).

@neshdesignDec 19.2015 — i develop my sites using WAMP too. I create themes from scratch, so basically all you upload is the theme folder /wp-contents/themes. Consider using your own domain on an ad-free hosting, there are a lot around, very good quality, for pennies.

Be careful, when you finish designing your website offline, you will have to upload all the contents after a fresh install.

i hope this helps ?

@Drew345authorDec 19.2015 — Thank you very much for the replies.

Where would I find the folder /wp-contents/themes? I search my whole drive and cannot see /wp-contents/themes or even /wp-contents.

My WAMP is in a folder right under the C drive: C:/wamp

Could the files be in there but with a different folder name?

My Theme name is TESSERACT (got it online).

Thanks so much,

Drew

@neshdesignDec 20.2015 — the folder should be something like mine: f:_WAMPwwwfoundationwp-contentthemes

obviously with your own details... so when you installed wordpress, you have created a folder.. from then is wp-contentthemes

hope this helps...

@Drew345authorDec 20.2015 — Got it, thanks. Found it in C:wampwwwwordpresswp-contentthemes

I guess looking at your folders that I didn't need to name my project wordpress, somehow I thought I had to. Thanks for the help!

as you will get more experienced you will start "opening your wings" and experience, thats when you will have multiple sites in your wamp www folder. i have about 50, when i start and dislike something, i just restart a new one, i find it easier, then sometimes i go back to an unfinished one.

basically, in wordpress, when you are in the themes folder, thats where all your usable themes are. if you are planning on making your website, i would suggest to start from scratch with a good framework, there are many tutorials about, you will be building your website whilst learning...
