What should I do?

Hey guys

So glad i found this site, I’m in need of a general question being answered. As i’m not sure what to do with my website.

About 4 years ago I created a quick fashion blog. Back when I had no idea of SEO or best practices etc.. Now my blog is popular and it just feels messy. I have articles that have several categories each so its duplicating the content. The theme i hacked together so there are bugs etc.. and Ive changed the permalinks so many times that about 3 different URLS point to the same page.

I was considering just deleting the whole thing, re-installing a fresh wordpress installation. Creating the pages an correct categories etc then adding in the posts one by one. Do you guys think this is wise or will it ruin my current ranking and high visits?

Thanks in advance.

@NogDogDec 14.2015 — Well, I'd say you do not want to change the permalinks again. Also, I see no real problem with articles having more than one category (as long as the associations make sense). Unless there is something grossly wrong with the logical structure of things, I might just look at the cosmetics and structure of the layout -- which should be changeable without touching any of the actual text content and such that the search engines would be using to catalog and rank your site.

If you do decide to do more intense rebuilding, then you might want to figure a way that all "old" links could still work by having them generate an HTTP 301 Permanent Redirect to the new URIs, preserving your existing search engine data and associating it with the new implementation.

@neshdesignDec 19.2015 — id suggest to get somebody to look into your code. It is not so difficult to create a new template to clean it up, by my experience if ive done it with minimal experience...

@Vinod_Kumar2Dec 23.2015 — You can make any change in design without touching the back-links and their redirects which are pointing to your website. And if we talk about categorizing that would be a plus in your website SEO
