@Bruce_AthertonDec 09.2015 — #Directory submissions does not create that much traffic to a websites anymore. I think search engines have their own way of indexing pages.
@jay_rogersDec 21.2015 — #Because most of the companies use automated software to submit your site to thousands of directories and eventually your site will be banned. So directory submission is low recommendation count.
@hieronymusf01Dec 22.2015 — #Up to some limit, directory submission is not use. Yes you can say that directory submission is not counted in SEO OFF Page Activities.
There are so many directory submission sites 90% of them are spam and will affect your ranking.
But there are some directories which are always helpful and have good PR which help in improving the keywords ranking as well as your website or webpage PR.
So, always do submission on high and trustworthy sites.
@w3webJan 18.2016 — #As per the other member's suggestions on this thread, Directory submissions have been spam and even though the traffic is been generated, the bounce ratio is higher for such traffic. This is why it is not highly recommended.
@richardstevensJan 26.2016 — #Directories are important tools in building link popularity and as a result help improve search engine ranking. They are an excellent source of inbound, one-way links, which are the most powerful types of links to help build link popularity.
@RationaltechJan 26.2016 — #Does it list anyone who pays? Or do they hold sites to some quality standards? Do they categorize sites properly? Or do they sell links to anyone in any category, even if it is the wrong one? Does each page have unique content? Are most pages empty - adding nothing but clutter to search indexes? If they do not help engines categorize the web (ie: no editorial value) then eventually the engines are not going to trust their votes.
@GorgiaJan 27.2016 — #Directory submission count low because it takes a long time to approved. Most of the directory sites review the submission after 1-2 months later. This is the best problem.
@GorgiaJan 27.2016 — #Not totally agree with you @Shiny012 about this. Directory also can drive traffic if it is approved by a site moderator. I have seen many of them doing this as a off page strategy.
