What do you need to consider if you build an app used in a private context vs biz?

I have started learning to develop apps using web techniques like cordova and HTML5.

I have a couple of ideas both for private and also in business context. Private means for me my own selfphone – I pay the bill as a private Person and I use lifestayle apps. Business means having a company phone plus using apps for example as a service technician to report issues. After I have read http://readwrite.com/2014/07/22/app-developers-enterprise-opportunity I tend to go rather for business. Despite of that I question myself what are the differences/criterias you need to watch out when developing for these users. So my question is:

What do you need to consider if you build an app used in a private context (topic: private user vs business users)?
(I already collected some)
– Data volume and internet connection – not that critical for business users who often have flatrates
– Conservative looks, naming, usage… vs fancy – private apps can look more fancy
– Include advertising – not that common for business apps
– Pricing – could be more expensive for business apps
– Permissions – especially in business context e.g. access to the devices address book can be one reason for prohibit the app in the company
– Security? Needed more in business context
– Functionality?
– …

Thanks in advance.

@jedaisoulSep 13.2015 — Hi and welcome to the site. This site focusses primarily on web site development, rather than apps, but I hope that someone here will prove knowledgeable about your query. For my own part, I do not see a need for apps, or at least a decreasing one. Responsive sites are already making mobile-specific sites a thing of the past, and I suspect they will do the same for apps? After all, why download an app if a link can provide the functionality you need? And think of the benefits of being able to amend, fix and enhance the "app" in one place with no need to distribute it?

Against that there seems to be a belief amongst users that apps are somehow necessary, and their popularity is enduring far beyond the historic need for them. So maybe there is a future for personal apps, but business ones, I'm not so sure?

@siennaauthorSep 14.2015 — Hi jedaisoul,

thanks for answer. I second your opinion about apps. The hybrid approuch is exactly the result of a compromise. On the one side I develop a functionality (call it app) with web techniques (HTML5 and jquery) and could also put this functionality/app then on any server and it would be reachable via a normal browser on any mobile phone. On the other side I want to make use of the app stores and their services - for the moment. So putting the functionality/app into a Web Container in android which then only displays requested data.

Would you not target the app market any more? I think the hybrid approach is at least combining both.

Best regards Sienna
