What domain extensions should I own when I launch my website that has eCommerce component for the first time? My website design company suggests I should own all the below. Assume they are all available. Should I? That seems like a lot
@AlanRonAug 12.2015 — #It will completely depend upon the targeted area. I would like to suggest you to go for .com domain. Because in future if you will plan to target worldwide it will be beneficial for you.
@host1plusAug 19.2015 — #Yes, when choosing the extension you should firstly define what is your target market - which country/countries, what kind of business you are doing and etc. To make it clear, let me give an example. If you are trying to attract a multicultural audience - .com will fit the best. .org is usually used by organizations and was originally created for non-profit ones and it seems that it still has this point of view. .net is usually taken if .com is already registered, it's like a second but still pretty good option. .info - you an imagine, it's more for the sites that provide some kind of informational material.
Actually, to give you a good advice, you should define your business in more details.
@JaniizAug 22.2015 — #For an eCommerce website I personally would recommend using a .com or .net because they can be directed to the world or to anyone in specific.
Also remember there are new domain names so if you companies name is already registered with .com or .net you have always got the new names to fall back on.
@janefirstAug 24.2015 — #You should purchase a TLD for your e-commerce business. If you target customers from worldwide locations and you could provide them your products there then .com and .net extensions are good for you. If you target customers inside your country then you can take the extension which suits well to your country e.g. .us/.au/.uk etc for USA/Australia/ and United Kingdom respectively. If you could not get domains with such extensions then .biz is also suitable for your site as it donates a business site. .info is suitable for IT website.
