I am currently running an IIS server on my home computer and was wondering if i can run it through my ip address or if i need apache to do this. If i need apache, where can i download it and what files? The apache website doesn’t really tell you how to download or anything, just gives you a list of choices. Also consider that i write all my scripts in ASP

@akadisApr 08.2004 — you need to foward the port IIS is runing in the configuration for your router (im assuming u use a router for your network) to your internal ip address, how to do this varies from router manufacturer to manufacturer.

@chrismartzauthorApr 08.2004 — isn't it normally port 80?

@PeOfEoApr 08.2004 — yes.

run --> command --> type in ipconfig --> get that defatul gateway number and your local ip --> type in default gateway into a web browser --> type in the password to your router (will be on the manual, you can download this from the manufac's site) --> then in there look for server settings and such and make sure port 80 is open at virtual http or just http and set the ip in there to your local ip.

If you need more help you can reply to this or pm me I guess. If you tell me who made your router and the model I can walk u though the config. You will probably need to go into a dmz or turn off your firewall if you want outsides to be able to visit your server.

No such thing. The Internet is a network so participating in it means dealing with a network. Believe me; this is a walk in the park compared to the crap we had to go through in the "good old days" of dialup BBSs.
