I have a client that wants me to build a website for him. When I’ve built websites in the past, I had payments that I thought were too generous and those that I was glad to get paid an hourly rate of $20 because I was new. I’ve done about 6 small business websites that sell furniture, chandeliers, car parts etc.
In this particular job, there are about 2,000 product items that I have to put on the website. They have selected a template from this website: [url]http://www.templatemonster.com/magento-themes/55015.html
and they want the website to be e-commerce friendly because they are selling products. Since I’m building the website from an already made template and not from scratch, I’m unsure of how much is a good rate. I estimated the project to be done within 2 weeks max.
In your opinion, what is a good rate? THey offered me 20 dollars an hour but I don’t want to undersell myself and want to make sure that’s a decent price. From my understanding, hourly rates are really bad to go by. Especially since I’m the sole developer of the website, I have to manage it, re-arrange the design to fit his needs etc. And 20 dollars an hour does seem pretty steep.
Opinions? I believe I”m a strong developer, I’ve had prior experience and I work hard and am passionate about it. If someone could give me a breakdown of lists of items such as:
Design – ____$
Coding – ___$
Database –
That would be fantastic, thanks for your help!
