@WebfreakauthorMar 23.2004 — I think this is not correct. Look code for IE5.5: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.0)
appCodeName

The code name of the browser. Netscape uses the code name "Mozilla" as the value of this property. For compatibility, IE does the same thing.

@AdamGundryMar 23.2004 — Yes, they both call themselves "Mozilla", but Webfreak is still probably right (the "Gecko" on the end means it must be Moz or another browser in its family).

That sounds accurate — it generally implies that the browser in question uses Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine; the number after it likely represents the build date of that specific version.

@WebfreakauthorMar 24.2004 — Thx for all :rolleyes: but i wan't to know wich mozilla is this?
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@ray326Mar 24.2004 — It's mozilla 1.4, hence the rv:1.4.

@Robert_WellockMar 24.2004 — It even tells you the build date: 24th June 2003.

@buntineMar 24.2004 — Interesting fact:

Netscape first came up with Mozilla as a play on words. 'A Browser which will kill Mosaic.'

So Mozilla, was the Godzilla which would destroy the Mosaic browser (developed by Bernars-Lee in the early 90's).

Regards.
