Is a site like pcpartpicker.com was technically hard to develop?

Hi all,

I was wondering if a site like pcpartpicker.com was technically hard to develop?
I mean the part of having all the products linked to retailers’ databases so that the site can always show the lowest available prices.
Is that very difficult to do for a good php developer?

Thanks for your advice

@NogDogDec 22.2014 — Depends on what sorts of API's the source sites provide to collect that information (if any).

I thought it was just a case of having access to a regularly updated document like a csv file with the SKUs, updated prices and links etc

Not easy then...

@william_steveDec 23.2014 — Compared to other web languages that require a bit of study, PHP does not require one to spend a lot of time researching a manual. Thanks to the syntax being logical and command functions describing exactly what they do, one can easily get right to the part of creating and optimizingthe application. If you have programming experience in both Perl and C, then learning PHP will be quite easy, as its syntax is based on these languages. Since PHP is an open source web language, it’s completely free of cost.Depending on how you code, PHP can turn out to be an efficient web language to use. In fact, PHP is known to be scalable when writing code as well as in creating applications and is very reliable when you need to serve several web pages. If you get stuck or are getting started when using PHP, one of the best places you can find information about the language is php.net apart from php pros from numerous websites and forums that are available over the internet.

It all depends on how/where you will get the data (i.e. what you negotiate with each vendor), and what your personal definition of "easy" is. ?

@altarauthorDec 24.2014 — Well I image that any vendor that has a affiliate program will have thought about third party access to that data
