I am not agree with you. Can you share some webpage for that you are discussing. These days Google is giving more preference to original and useful content. Panda 4.0 algorithm update is recent example of it.

There can be several banks' websites different brands that are popular everywhere so they come on top doesn't matter they have some competition or not but you can see on first page. Its because of the audience which is making them popular so google respects audience response on your products ?
