Payment process

Hi,
I have just started looking after a website,
the website let the people to make purchases. However sometimes the website stops at the payment processing stage. The transfer doesn’t go throug and stopps there. (i have checked the payment gateway).
However a purchase ID/ ID receipt is produced by the website showing it on the report. as the payment hasn’t gone through so there is no purchase.
doesn anyone have an idea why this might be happening? is the communication between the webserver and payment gateway or payment gateway’s server communication between the banks?

@jedaisoulMay 13.2014 — I'm no expert on payment processing, but it occurs to me: what if the payment is declined by the bank? Could that account for it, or is it not getting that far?

@linda8authorMay 13.2014 — Checked the bank. Nothing was declined. There is something missing between the payment gateway and the website. Can't figure it out.
