Glaring Amateur?

Several things guys.

First, what are your suggestions for improving my page layout? (I haven’t had time to change all pages, just the first.)

Second, when you visit my page, you may see one drop-down ad, or you may see 2 or 3. Wtf? Geocities suggestion for “fixing” this is to convert my frames to pages, or tables. Is this necessary?

have at it, thanks:

@WebfreakMar 05.2004 — First I have some problems with reading the context - it is black like your background. The black backgrounds aren't very good choise. Maybe you should try to make your design with CSS. If you haven' alredy seen pyro's page go and check it ot! Also you can get some ideas on A list apart. Also you can get lots of informations on W3Schools.

Also I think that the advice which you get from geocities is terrible - site shouldnt been changet into tables!! Tables aren't good for design!

And another thing -> you should leave from geocities. This is the worst place where you can build your site. It don't offer nothing what you will need for building a good site. It don't offer even the support for PHP or any other server-side language. ?

@spowell_40authorMar 05.2004 — If you tried to view my page with Mozilla, you saw that it doesn't view correctly. Currently, it is only viewed accurately in IE. I know, I know, that sucks. I use Mozilla as well. It's just that I made the page with FrontPage. I just haven't had a lot of time to learn everything. This is my first webpage. Thanks for the advice and patience.

@WebfreakMar 06.2004 — I think that if you are working with frontpage you should start thinking about changing the program. I thint that macromedija isn't the cheapest program but it is worth of its price. :p The code which is generated with fronpage is realy realy big!! You will be able to resize the size of your page for at least 5 times!! Also the code is lots more cleaner. I personaly started with frontpage but I have realised that this is really the worst program to work with!:p

@spufiMar 06.2004 — "Improved Compatibility with Mozilla 8.0"

Technically, Mozilla is up to version 1.6 although 1.7 is really close to being final. Firefox is version 0.8. I would rewrite it to where it would say "Improved Compatibility with Mozilla based browsers." This after you had gone through and cleaned house on your code because if what I see is improved support, I don't want to know what support was like before. ?

As said before, drop Front Page and use a different text editor. Even something as simple as Notepad, or HTML Kit. Make sure the only code you have in your file is the code you personally put in, and then validate and cross browser test it. Once it's hammered out, then upload it. Note you will never have valid code once you upload it to Geocities unless Geocities starts to actually care about web design.

The site looks like it should be a professional done site based on what the site is about. I would seriously consider finding even a cheap host and using them instead of Geocities. This would kill the issue of using frames, pop ups, and invaild code.

Alright, no one take this personally, but I'm sick of people plugging DW! Yay, DW costs like... 400 bucks, it's really popular -- wooo!

DW can spit out bloated, invalid code, too, you know. It's not the Holy Grail of WYSIWYG.

In my personal opinion, any WYSIWYG editor is bad. Be it FP or DW. The best and most reliable method is to hand-code.

So, go pick up something with numbered lines, syntax highlighting, whatever it is you're into -- but, at all costs, avoid any and every WYSIWYG Editors!!!

@WebfreakMar 06.2004 — I totaly agree with Paul Jr - I know that I have mention DW  but that was only an option (I think that it si much better than FP and I know that it is not perfect). I personaly using wordpad for writing the code. But I didn't ment to advertise the "product" - as I sad it was only an option.

Yeah, DW is better than FP, but in my opinion they're both no good. ?

No offense intended to you for plugging DW, I'm just very opinionated. I plug things I like, too. ?
