How can I get a true picture of how my site is doing ?

Hi Guys

I want to get a realistic picture of how my web site is doing in terms of where it would be for someone searching my work area for the first time. I understand that simply typing in search terms in my regular browser (Firefox) will not give me a true picture. How can I best find out – if I use ‘Private Browsing’ will this do it ? If not, how can I browse with my relevant search terms that will give me a realistic picture of where I am on the engines ??
