Need an expert opinion on what service to use to build a website

Hi,

I’ll make this quick and to the point. Please excuse any ignorance I might show in the below question.

Did a lot of research on which service to use to create a website. I am not a web developer or designer and have very limited coding knowledge. Downloaded services like Dreamwaver, too advanced for me, installed RapidWeaver, read there will be a lot of cost involved in getting all the extras. Researched worpress, wix, weebly and read about other websites that offer similar service. For somebody that is a novice in website building but is not afraid to learn (on something that is intuitive and doesn’t require code knowledge) and does not want something that will limit me in the future as my knowledge grows what should I use for:

-my business website(I do not want to create a blog) -ability to use the website on different platforms (mobile and web) -let’s me play around the website as much as possible – easy to use

I hope this made sense. My head is really spinning from everything I read. So much to learn and just hard to wrap my head around all kinds of different solutions offered. Any, and I mean any, knowledgable advice is very appreciated as is your time to read what I wrote and effort put in replying.

@WebDesignDenverFeb 27.2014 — I'd rather own the website instead of monthly payments to wix. You can get godaddy or hostgator hosting for around $5.00 a month and use wordpress with a responsive template - meaning it works on multi platforms.

I've never used Wix but wordpress is great for starting out and doesn't require that much knowledge, not to mention is good for seo.

I might go with the second advice because I heard a lot about wordpress, mostly extremely positive things. As far as hosting goes what do you think about bluehost vs. hostgator? Looked into both and I can't decide which one to go with. By the time I add all the extra stuff I think I might need I would end up paying about 70 bucks for either one.

It may be worth searching online for coupons for hostgator and see if you can find one that will save you some money.

@Error404Mar 02.2014 — I haven't used hosting where I had to pay monthly amounts as I had access and was allowed to use certain servers for uploading. In terms of services, I've used Wordpress just for seeing how it was and was quite impressed. It minimized the headache of creating an attractive layout that wasn't restricted by browsers and incorporating plug-ins was very simple. That said, my personal preference is to be in control of the web site so I can completely customize it in any way I like, however, that also means more work and possibly, more difficulty.

Generally it can be supported on mobile platforms, unless you're using certain plug-ins or features which may be limited in their compatibility, but that's something to look at later down the road. For now, I'd recommend Wordpress, Wix or whichever you like the most so as to reduce any headache.

@dardisintelMar 10.2014 — I would also recommend Wordpress with a responsive/mobile ready theme, I've trained several businesses on how to use Wordpress to manage their website easily, once you get it installed and through the initial learning curve you will be very happy with how you can control your website and learn new tricks.
