Mouse over effect help needed

I’m pretty sure this is a javascript question but if not please excuse me for posting this in the wrong place. Anyway, I am trying to create a mouseover effect for images on my site. I want an image to have a kinda white transparent overlay to it kinda and then when the mouse hovers over the image it then turns clearer. It’s kinda hard to describe what i want in words so below is an example:

Go to www.inflames.com and scroll all the way down to the bottom banner of the page. It says Swedish Metal. Just hover the image to see what i mean..how was this achieved?

Thanks,
Dave

Edit: I just finally figured this out by myself. I'm proud?
