@PeOfEoFeb 28.2004 — #Dont bother, your upload is not going to allow more then one user on your site at a time(I gave him a speakeasy speed test in the seattle area, and his upload rate is 73k). You can install apache however and run php locally for testing, and user a server to share files, but hosting a site would not be practical.
@Paul_JrFeb 28.2004 — #You probably on dial-up, no?
I have Apache, PHP, and MySQL installed on my computer. The only thing I use 'em for is testing/learning, and showing people the odd file. I am now forced to buy hosting since I'm having too many annoying problems with this stuff that are hindering my learning process. I will probably end up ditching MySQL and keeping Apache/PHP because it'd be a pain to have to FTP files all over the place just for minor script testing.
The point is: It's not worth it since you have a slow upload speed, but it's good if you are learning and need to test stuff.

i got a cable modem but like peofeo said it is worth less
ur dl and ur modem are fine, but your isp caps your upload low. So your internet is fine for gameing, and browseing, the normal stuff, you are just going to have problems if you want to run a server. Like I said, cable companies do not want servers hogging all of the bandwidth on their lines.
@Daniel_TFeb 29.2004 — #i am working on a site for a business, and have it stored on my apache server so the business can check my progress. however, i would never consider hosting the site off of my computer. it results in a excrutiatingly(spelled rong, im sure?) long download and u have a good chance of getting hacked and perhaps bringin in spyware or the likes. just my opinion,

-Dan
Well, I could do it efficiently if I had about 200k more upstream bandwidth. I would not be using my comp, because if I tried to game off of it the site would lag lol. I would use my mom's comp ?. She only uses it to check her email so I could probably convince her to let me keep it running 24/7. Its a 4 1.7 with 256 rd ram. My comp is a p4 2.6 (800mhz fsb + ht) with 512 ddr pc-3200 (geil gold dragon, hard core stuff) rock on!

Leaving your machine running 24/7 would be the worst. Not to mention the abundance of security flaws.
Its my mom's comp that would be up 24/7 not mine lol. I am perfectly willing to compromise her security, she does not do a lot of online shopping. I would probably upgrade her to w2k3 with iis6 though... I would just tell her its better, which would be the truth of cource.
@Paul_JrFeb 29.2004 — #Eh, I leave my computer on 24/7 -- I'm not always connected since I have dial-up, however, I am connected most of the time, and I run Apache on my computer...
@PeOfEoFeb 29.2004 — #I run maybe 18/5 + 24/2 since I am on 24/7 on week days. I turn my comp off during the week when I am not home though. I am running iis5 right now, and I am in a dmz (because my firewall was messing with my gameing ability)... I guess I am asking for it lol.
